Time of occurrence

Construction of the Historical Museum took place from 1875 to 1883. It was created to house the national treasury of Russia. It was decided to organize the construction of the museum in order to collect all treasures, relics and memorabilia in one area. The founding day of the Historical State Museum is February 9, 1872. The highest permission on this gave Alexander III. Scientists, artists, military, architects and industrialists worked on the construction of the building and the collection of the museum collections. The foundation of the museum was also attended by members of the royal family and ordinary residents of the capital.

History of

The State Historical Museum was erected in Red Square. Originally it was planned to build the building of the Moscow Duma on this site. The foundation stone of the museum was traditionally laid by Emperor Alexander III.

Participation in the development of the history of the museum was taken by famous patrons and donors. The collection of a landmark place for Moscow and Russian culture was quickly replenished. Zabelin, Shchukin and Bakhrushin took part in this process, as well as many other people who were involved in patronage of arts. Thanks to sponsors and donors, as well as founders, the museum has become one of the largest in Russia.
